PC Purchases at USF
USF departments are encouraged to utilize the services and offering of the USF Computer Store, located on the 2nd floor of the Bookstore on the Tampa campus.  There you will find the major PC vendors and specially negotiated pricing.  Custom quotes are common and the staff will assist you in configuration recommendations if desired. 

The USF Computer Store also extends these services to faculty and staff for the purchase of computers for personal use.  Payroll deduction programs are also available.

PC Specifications (Minimum Specifications):

Information Technologies recommends the following minimum PC specifications to utilize the major business systems (GEMS Pro, OASIS INB, FAST, eUSF Portal, Data Warehouse).

  • Pentium 3 800 MHz processor
  • 512 MB RAM
  • Internet Explorer 7
  • 10/100 Ethernet Network Card
  • Operating System:  Windows XP SP2 (Note: while Windows 2000 will allow operation of the EBS systems, IT strongly recommends the WinXP SP2 operating system for security reasons).

PC Specifications (Preferred Specifications):
Information Technologies recommends the following preferred NEW PC specifications for our SuperServer customers in addition to utilizing the Enterprise Business Systems (EBS).  The following are "Vista Ready" specifications:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6550 
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 160 GB Hard Drive
  • DVD/CDRW Drive
  • 10/100 Ethernet Network Card
  • Warranty:  3 yr on site/next business day
  • Video/Audio:  256MB Video card; standard audio
  • Internet Explorer 7
  • Operating System:  Windows XP SP2 (Important note:  USF IT does not recommend VISTA at this time)

Laptop Specifications (Preferred Specifications)
Information Technologies recommends the following preferred specifications when purchasing a NEW laptop computer for office-use in addition to utilizing the Enterprise Business Systems. The following are "Vista Ready" specifications:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 or higher
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 120 GB Hard Drive
  • DVD/CDRW Drive
  • 10/100 Ethernet Network Card
  • Warranty:  3 yr on site/next business day
  • Video/Audio:  256MB videocard; Standard audio
  • Internet Explorer 7 (Important note:  USF IT does not recommend VISTA at this time)
  • Operating System:  Windows XP SP2
  • Wireless:  802.11g compatible wireless networking card/capability

Internet Explorer Browser Requirements
Every attempt is made to support the widest possible selection of web browsers during our application development process, however, in most cases USF must abide by the original software/application provider’s specification.  Microsoft’s Internet Explorer version 6 is the officially supported web browser for USF’s Enterprise Business Systems (including GEMS Pro, OASIS INB, FAST Pro, eUSF Portal and Data Warehouse).

NOTE:  The production application web addresses should be added to Internet Explorer’s Trusted Sites list found under Tools>> Internet Options.  The default Internet Explorer security setting should also be set to MEDIUM.
