The USF Latino Scholarship Program is a group of university-wide financial need based scholarships that are funded by the Tampa Bay area Latino community and others interested in issues affecting the Latino community, and is designed to assist USF in achieving and sustaining the education benefits of diversity and increasing the number of USF students interested in issues affecting the Latino community and/or likely to give back to the Latino community after graduation.
For: This renewable scholarship is for incoming freshmen and junior level transfer students who have a minimum 3.0 GPA as calculated by USF; graduate from an accredited high school or community college in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Manatee, Pasco, Hernando, or Sarasota; and demonstrate financial need as documented by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Strong consideration will be given to students who are fluent in Spanish and are the first generation in their family to attend college. You do not need to be Hispanic to apply for or receive this scholarship.
Award amount: $2,000
Deadline to apply: late January for freshmen, mid March for transfer juniors. Complete the STARS questionnaire to find out if you are eligible to apply. Requires personal statement, student resume and an essay describing an issue affecting the Latino community, how you would address that issue, and how you intend upon graduation to give back to the Latino community. Also please describe your level of Spanish fluency (i.e. number of years of AP or IB Spanish; Spanish spoken in the home; etc.) Semi-finalists will be contacted for a short telephone interview.
